Airstream Caravel: Still sleek and aerodynamic

I have never owned an Airstream trailer, or even been inside one for that matter, but gosh I love the looks of them. For as long as I've sen them on the roads or at campgrounds, practically all my life, they've looked modern and futuristic. Knowing a little of their history, how is it possible that a travel trailer design from the 1930s could look just as sleek and aerodynamic today as it did then. Come to think of it, when they first appeared during the Depression, they must have looked like Jules Verne or Buck Rogers had designed them. This one, I'd guess it at about 17-18 feet, looks very cozy and manageable. It might be a lot of fun to spend a few days in the mountains or on a quiet lake. Maybe I'll check into it. I understand that an Airstream similar to this one - built in about 1967 - could cost between $3,000-$6,000. I guess I'd have to leave everything at home but a toothbrush but it'd sure be an adventure. Do any of you have experience with an Airstream?

  2. I've always thought the airstream was cute with sleek rounded shape. I've lived in a lot of RVs, but never one of these. A friend said that the cupboards were hard to pack because the corners weren't square. ;-)

Well, I have never seen one, only on TV (american films).

  4. These just look so 1960s, they are really great, and I don't like caravans. I lived in a very small one for the first 7 years of my life. The Airstream looks almost futuristic; I bet they are a great subject in monochrome.

  5. They make one this is motorized. I've been eyeing it. I better go out and get that lottery ticket if I ever hope to get one or put fuel in it.

  7. I've never seen a trailer like this before, it's very strange and could get lots of attention over here.

  8. I've never had one, but I used to know someone who did and they loved it. They went all over the country in it. They even belonged to an Airstream club.

  9. Don't see very many of these on the road anymore, although I did see one in Salida, Colorado a year ago - and it had Florida plates! But it was bigger than this one. I think.

  10. I was googling an Airstream service center in Tampa area and came up with your post :)

We are traveling in a motorized 1991 Airstream at the moment with our family. We left over a month ago and love it! If you have a chance to try it, go for it!!

  11. @ Sennie - Thank you so much for visitng and leaving a comment. Where are you from? I visited your profile and blogs but don't have a translation.

Where did you start your Airstream journey and where are you going from Tampa?

Did you find a service center here?

  12. Sorry about the foreign language, I blog in a language only about 5 million people speak :o)

We left New England in September and took our time to drive to Florida. Our original plan was to drive back early October but we've enjoyed our time so much we stayed longer.

I saw one service center in Tampa, so we'll call them.

As for future plans.. Well, we sort of go where the wind blows.. We'll be in Florida a bit longer, then who knows? :)
